Rocking chairs

When i think of a rocking chair i think of old peps not capabel af walking or at least walking very slowly...

It might be me stupid, but what is it about the rocking chair thing in "The Patriot"?

For me it is a really clear symbol and its not possible to misunderstand the meaning of it!
